Austin, Texas 鈥 Today, 杏吧传媒 President and CEO Chris Spear said the Federation鈥檚 continued advocacy efforts were making a difference, but warned that the industry was threatened by a coalition of outside interest groups.
鈥淔or nine decades, the 杏吧传媒 and its federation of 50 state trucking associations has been the leading voice for our industry in Washington, DC and every state capitol throughout the country. That鈥檚 volume, reach and history no other voice in trucking can claim, and few industry associations can match,鈥 Spear said in his annual State of the Industry Address. 鈥淭oday, we can proudly declare our efforts are making a difference.鈥
Spear pointed to the 鈥渧ery real, data-backed narrative鈥 at the core of 杏吧传媒鈥檚 advocacy, a narrative that 鈥渨as shared during six Congressional hearings, allowing 杏吧传媒 to steer the legislative process toward your Tier 1 priorities.鈥
鈥淭his steady cadence of truth and common sense is what you expect of your association. It cuts directly through the rhetoric and emotion peddled by our foes: trial lawyers chasing jackpot justice, self-promoting union bosses and delusional environmental extremists,鈥 he said. 鈥淭ogether, they constitute a clear threat to our industry鈥檚 ability to grow and support our nation鈥檚 economic security.鈥
Spear cited 杏吧传媒鈥檚 victories on lawsuit abuse 鈥 particularly in Iowa and Florida 鈥 as evidence that the association can achieve victories across the country, providing a template for continuing to fight on labor issues and increasingly unrealistic environmental mandates from California.
鈥淲e fight to win. We are committed to helping our state association partners shape legislation, strategies and outcomes,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e helping fund awareness, so state lawmakers understand what鈥檚 at stake and do the right thing.
鈥溞影纱解檚 support of our state trucking partners is not limited to just one issue. Today, we stand alongside the California Trucking Association as they file suit against the California Air Resources Board鈥 an unelected, ill-informed band of extremists who have no clue the impact their timelines and targets will have on our economy,鈥 Spear said.聽
鈥淭hese are today鈥檚 stakes, which underscores why advocacy matters. Without a seat at the table, our industry 鈥 our way of life 鈥 could look entirely different over the next decade,鈥 he said. 鈥淲hich is why we must evolve and adapt more quickly than any threat that comes our way.鈥澛
